ECISD COVID protocols still in place

With school resuming after Christmas break and an uptick in COVID-19 cases, Ector County ISD is keeping the same protocols in place that it had at the start of the year.

Chief Communications Officer Mike Adkins said cases were spiking at the end of summer vacation, so the protocols put in place at the start of the year are still relevant now because cases are spiking again.

Adkins said the district is stressing good hygiene and handwashing with students. The recommendation that people wear masks inside buildings still stands, he added.

If you are sick, stay home. Adkins added that testing is available again, with parent permission, for students who feel sick at school.

In terms of quarantining, ECISD is still working on the guidelines to mesh with those from the Centers for Disease Control.

He said the biggest points to stress right now are that all the safety guidelines that were being used are still in place.

“If your child is sick and running a fever, keep them at home,” Adkins said.

ECISD suggests having children tested for COVID and if they test positive, let the school nurse know and they will walk parents through that, Adkins said.

He noted that COVID tests are not required.

Virtual school is available for students who qualify, but it is a full semester commitment that requires approval from the child’s principal, Adkins said.
