December sales tax check up more than 23%

The City of Odessa’s December sales tax check, which reflect sales made in October, was up 23.43% compared to last year at this time.

According to a City of Odessa news release, the city received a check of $5,551,92934. This amount includes the Economic Development sales tax of one quarter cent. The City of Odessa will receive $4,441,543.47 And the Odessa Development Corporation will receive $1,110,385.87

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for FY22-23 is up 31.86% or $3,325,149.56 as compared to the budgeted amount expected at this point in the fiscal year. In addition, the ’22-23 year-to-date amount is above the previous fiscal year-to-date amount by 19.64% or $2,259,400.20. The city has budgeted $44 million in net sales tax revenues for this current fiscal year.

The City of Midland’s sales tax revenue was up 36.24% compared to December 2021. They reported $5,523,338 in sales tax revenue. The city’s FY ’23 balance is now at $16,647,882, a 32.49% increase over this point last year.
