OPD warns of dispatch scam

The Odessa Police Department said in a news release they have recently received several complaints about a scam involving dispatch.

Citizens reported receiving calls from the phone number 432-333-3641, which is a non-emergency phone number for dispatch. The suspects are pretending to be 911 operators and advising citizens that they are returning their call, the release said.

The suspects are asking citizens for their personal information and if they would like to donate money to the “Wounded Officer Foundation.” Should dispatch call someone back, the operator will never ask for personal information or money, the release said.

“Odessa Police would like to remind the public that should someone receiving a phone call from anyone claiming to work for dispatch to please not pay any money or provide any personal information,” the release said.
