The Odessa Police Department received a $85,000 check Tuesday afternoon raised from the Bustin for Badges Clay Shoot event last month.
Bustin for Badges raised $340,000 in total, evenly split between OPD, Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Midland Police Department and Midland County Sheriff’s Office.
An OPD news release stated the money will be used for the OPD Bomb Squad Unit to upgrade its equipment to be more efficient in the safest possible way.
Sheriff Mike Griffis said ECSO’s $85,000 portion of the funds raised would probably be used for more ballistic vests and new equipment and technology for their SWAT division.
