OPD charges man with assaulting officer, resisting arrest

Odessa police arrested a man Monday on charges related to the assault of an officer and resisting arrest.

Gary Mitchell Keen, 32, was arrested around 6:45 p.m. Monday and charged with second-degree-felony assault of a public servant, misdemeanor evading arrest or detention and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

An Odessa police release stated officers responded to the 3800 block of Robertson Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance involving child custody, before making contact with a 59-year-old woman who identified Keen as her son. Keen approached an OPD officer in an aggressive manner by acting like he was going to strike him with his fist, then pushed the OPD officer down, before resisting arrest as the officer attempted to handcuff him, the release states.

A second officer arrived to assist the first in handcuffing Keen, the release detailed, and Keen was charged and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

Jail records indicate Keen had not been released Tuesday afternoon.
