National Police Week, memorial service

As part of National Police Week (May 13-19), members of the Odessa Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Midland County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Lubbock Police Department and other local agencies will conduct a memorial service to honor fellow officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty on Friday.

The service begins at 10 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 6801 East Highway 80.

OPD will honor officers who lost their lives in the line of duty the past year in Texas, including eight local law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty: Ector County Sheriff Deputy Thad West, Cpl. Gordon “G.T.” Toal, Officer Scott Stanton Smith, Lubbock Officer Rodney Kendricks, Cpl. Arlie “Lee” Jones, Cpl. John Scott Gardner, Cpl. Abel Marquez, and Midland County Sheriff Deputy Mike Naylor.
