Man indicted in connection with shooting death

A man charged in connection with a shooting death of one man and assault of another man last November in Odessa was indicted by an Ector County Grand Jury this week.

Jesus Cajica Zermeno, 28, was indicted May 7 on charges of first-degree-felony murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Records indicate Zermeno’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 21 in District Judge James Rush’s courtroom. Tony Chavez has been retained for the defense.

Zermeno was arrested by U.S. Marshals Feb. 20 in Ojinaga, Mexico, before he was extradited back to Ector County, according to the Ector County Sheriff’s Office.

On Nov. 15 deputies responded to the 12000 block of Citation Drive in West Odessa to find 37-year-old Armando Nunez lying on the ground, having been shot several times. Emergency medical services were called to the scene for Nunez, but he did not survive, a news release detailed.

A second victim, 26-year-old Rocky Hernandez, suffered two gunshot wounds and survived.

The shooting was investigated as a domestic disturbance, and further investigation revealed Zermeno as a suspect before a warrant was issued for his arrest, official releases stated.
