Man charged with racing, endangering infant daughter

Odessa police arrested a man during a traffic stop after reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and racing with another vehicle with his infant daughter in the vehicle.

Abisua Levya, 17, was charged with endangering a child, a state jail felony, and racing on a highway and false identification, both class B misdemeanors.

An Odessa Police Department news release stated officers saw the Ford F-150 traveling north in the 1200 block of North Grant Avenue at a high rate of speed on Sunday. Police reported the vehicle was accelerating with a high RPM and loud exhaust while it raced with another vehicle.

When officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 1000 block of East 14th Street, they eventually identified the driver as Levya and the center passenger as his 9-month-old daughter, the release stated.

Levya initially gave officers the wrong date of birth, but later gave the correct one, the release detailed. Levya was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. The child was released to her mother.
