Man charged with robbing Lyft driver

A 23-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly robbed a Lyft driver at gunpoint.

Kevorius Deontae Knox was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.

Eric Medellin, the complainant, reported the robbery to the Odessa Police Department on Aug. 31, an OPD probable cause affidavit detailed. Medellin stated he was a driver for Lyft and he had picked up a rider, later identified as Knox, from the Regency Square Apartment located at 4100 Tanglewood Lane.

Medellin reportedly saw Knox come out of his apartment. Medellin took Knox to 201 Pagewood where Knox robbed Medellin at gunpoint and demanded money.

Knox then had Medellin drive him back to the Regency Square Apartments, the affidavit stated. Medellin described Knox as a young black male with small braided hair.

Investigation reportedly showed the apartment the rider had left was occupied by Knox and an ID photo of Knox matched the description of Medellin. A photo lineup was administered to Medellin in which he positively identified the rider as Knox.

Lyft records showed the profile used by Knox was verified by the same phone number he had on record with the apartment complex, the affidavit stated.

Knox was arrested, charged and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Sept. 20, jail records show. He has one bond totaling $60,000 and he was still in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
