Couple arrested following knife fight

An Odessa couple was arrested late Tuesday night after both suffered knife wounds during an argument at a hotel on Tres Hermanas Boulevard.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received a call shortly after 11 p.m. from Michelle Oliver, 52, who told them she’d just cut her husband with a knife after he assaulted her.

When officers arrived, Michelle Oliver said her husband, Edward Oliver, 53, grabbed her and threw her to the floor of their hotel room and her right side was hurt, the report stated.

She further stated she’d grabbed a knife and struck her husband’s head with it, the report stated.

When officers looked at her side, they realized she’d been stabbed from behind and she had a large severe laceration beneath her right arm pit, the report stated.

When officers interviewed Edward Oliver at the hospital, he said his wife instigated the event. According to the report, he told officers she grabbed the knife, raised it above her head as though she was going to use it against him. He said he took her to the floor to defend himself and he got cut in the process.

He said he didn’t know how his wife was injured, the report stated.

Both Olivers were arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury.

They remained in the Ector County jail Wednesday night on surety bonds of $50,000 each.
