Children alert father to sexual assault

An Odessa man was booked into the Ector County jail Monday after witnesses reported seeing him rape a woman in an alley near 42nd Street and McKnight Drive.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a man called 911 around 5:45 p.m. to report he saw someone being raped in an alley behind the 400 block of Douglas Drive.

When officers arrived, the man told them his children had alerted him to something happening in the alley and when he looked, he heard a woman screaming for help while being raped.

The woman told officers she was walking down the alleyway when a man, later identified as Artemio Hart, grabbed her and dragged her toward a dumpster, the report stated. She said he placed his hand around her mouth impeding her breath and forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her while she pleaded for him to stop.

According to the report, she hit and scratched Hart to try to get him to stop.

Hart told officers he originally planned to rob the woman, but when she said she didn’t have any money decided to rape her, having watched “rape-porn” for some time, the report stated.

Officers found the woman’s belongings in the alley and signs of a struggle, the report stated.

Hart was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a controlled substance, less than one gram. He remains in the Ector County jail on surety bonds totaling $110,000.
