GOOD NEWS: Saluting a Fallen Hero

At sunrise on Feb. 6, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Odessa Police Department to honor Officer Scott Stanton Smith who died 34 years ago.

Back in 1987, the 25-year-old was responding to a burglary call when he was involved in a motorcycle accident. Two days after the accident, his wife found out she was pregnant with their second child. He spent six months on life support before passing away.

The Honor Guard took the wreath down at sundown. Chief Gerke, Deputy Chief Matt Davidson, and Deputy Chief Robert Doporto were among those on hand to remember this fallen hero.
