Odessa man accused of strangling common-law wife

A 29-year-old Odessa man was arrested on accusations that he threw his common-law wife to the ground, grabbed her by the throat and strangled her during an argument four months ago.
Kody Dale Brown was arrested Thursday on a warrant charging him with assault by strangulation – family violence – a third-degree felony. Brown is suspected of roughing up a woman, identified by a probable cause affidavit as 29-year-old Amber Pack, who was reportedly assaulted Oct. 11, 2016, at a unit at the Hemingway House Apartments, 6401 Eastridge Road.
Pack reported to Odessa Police Department officers that Brown reportedly strangled her, claiming he was intoxicated and then began to argue. Park told officers Brown threw her to the ground, kicked her, and then threw her into a mirror, causing some unspecified bodily injury, the affidavit reported.
“Amber then stated Brown then grabbed her by the throat with both hands, pushed her up against the wall and lifted her, cutting off her air way so that she could not breathe for several seconds,” the affidavit read.
Police took photos of Pack’s face, throat, chest, arms and legs. Odessa Police Department detectives got an arrest warrant for Brown based the facts and circumstances of the case, the OPD said.
The OPD did not explain where they found Brown when they arrested him. Brown, 2439 W. 15th St., was being held Friday at the Ector County Detention Center on $15,000 bond.
