Town hall to address economic development

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin will host a town hall meeting Friday so residents can offer perspective to city officials on economic development in South Odessa. The town hall is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Woodson Community Center, 1020 E. Murphy St., Black Chamber President and CEO Odel Crawford said. The event is free and open to the public.
County Commissioner Armando Rodriguez, District 1 Councilman Malcolm Hamilton and Odessa Development Corporation board member Gene Collins are all slated to attend. Mayor David Turner and Odessa College President Gregory Williams may also join.
Crawford said the town hall will mainly be a listening session for government officials so citizens can address needs and goals for the area, but the public officials are welcome to present information too.
“We need some economic development, businesses coming in and people need to talk about what they see happening in the community and what they want to see happening,” Crawford said.
