A woman was charged with endangering a child she was babysitting after reportedly dragging her out of bed outside into 37 degree weather.
Police were called about a medical call on Monday near Second Street and Dixie Boulevard, an Odessa Police Department release said, after medics told them they had seen a woman, 37-year-old Roshenda Powell, walking in the street pulling a 10-year-old girl.
The child was reportedly waving at the ambulance frantically to stop, the release stated, and when medics tried to separate the child from the woman, Powell became combative and would not let the medics near the child, pinning her against the wall of a business in the 1300 block of East Second Street.
Powell had been watching the child at a nearby residence, and woke her up around 3:30 a.m. and pulled her down the street, the release detailed. The child was reportedly wearing a short-sleeved shirt and was barefoot while it was 37 degrees outside.
Officers noticed Powell was intoxicated on a substance other than alcohol, the release said, and after being treated at Medical Center Hospital, she was charged with endangering a child, a state jail felony.
The release added that the child was released to a family member after Child Protective Services was notified.
Jail records show Powell was taken to the Ector County Detention Center Monday and has a $15,000 bond.
