Woman charged with endangering boys in wreck

Odessa police arrested a 34-year-old woman Wednesday on two counts of endangering a child, after she was accused of causing a four-vehicle wreck that injured boys ages 6 and 7 years old.

The wreck happened at about 5:42 p.m. Wednesday in the 2100 block of Beverly Street, after police say Keela Yvonne Roberts tailgated a small car in her Ford SUV and tried to pass it on the wrong side of the road at a high speed before crashing into a tree.

The resulting crash would damage four vehicles, two of which rolled. Police reported Roberts initially gave a false name. She and the boys were taken to Medical Center Hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

Police arrested Roberts on the two felony charges, along with misdemeanor counts of false identification and reckless driving and two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Offers also notified Child Protective Services, who released the boys to a family member.

Roberts, 923 W. Monahans St., was released Thursday from the Ector County Detention Center on a total $50,000 bond.
