TxDOT roadwork to begin Tuesday, later this month

Starting Tuesday, FM 1787 in Ector County will be getting repairs from mile marker 264 to 268. The repairs will require lane closures.
In addition, from Tuesday through Thursday FM 846 in Martin County will be getting repairs from mile marker 294 to 302. The repairs will require lane closures.
Starting Wednesday, crews will be working on FM 1788 in Andrews County between mile markers 318 and 320. Repairs will necessitate a lane closure for southbound traffic.
Later this month, a project to improve a four-mile section of FM 1788 between State Highway 191 and Business Interstate 20 in Midland County is set to begin later this month. FM 1788 is also known as State Highway 349 in this area.
Jones Brothers Dirt & Paving Contractors of Odessa won the project with a bid of $6.9 million, according to a Texas Department of Transportation news release.
The projects will accomplish two things. First, it will add a continuous left turn lane to the section north of Loop 40, which will improve safety for turning movements. Second, it will rehabilitate and rebuild the entire stretch of road. The road has deteriorated in recent years due to heavy oilfield traffic.
Motorists should expect lane closures and delays as the project is done. Access to businesses will be maintained as much as possible. A reduced speed limit will be in effect. In some areas it will be 50 miles per hour, but much of the project will have a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.
A width restriction of 11 feet will be put in place for the project. The project is expected to take about nine months to be completed.
