TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds fall in extra innings

MIDLAND The Frisco RoughRiders scored three runs in the 10th inning Sunday to beat the Midland RockHounds 7-5 in the finale of their Texas League series at Security Bank Ballpark.

Frisco won three of four games in the series to extend its lead in the South Division to 2 and 1/2 games over Midland.

The RockHounds trailed 3-1 in the third inning, but tied it on Nate Mondou’s two-run homer in the sixth. Luke Persico hit a solo home run in the eighth to tie it at 4.

In the 10th, Frisco got an RBI double from Juremi Profar and run-scoring singles from Eliezer Alvarez and Andretty Cordero. Midland’s Luis Barrera scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning, but RoughRiders reliever Walker Weickel struck out the three batters he faced for his first save.

Profar finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Alvarez was 3 for 5 and Cordero was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
 
Persico and Mondou each went 2 for 5 for Midland, while Mikey White was 2 for 4.
 
Frisco’s Blake Bass (2-1) worked 1.1 innings in relief for the win. Midland reliver Matt Milburn (1-2) was charged with four runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings to take the loss.
 
Midland opens a three-game series at Amarillo on Monday before hosting Corpus Christi for four games starting Thursday.
