Poetry Society to stage book signings, readings April 22

MIDLAND With 16 poets, short story writers and novelists from Midland, Odessa, Gardendale, Alpine and Austin, the Permian Basin Poetry Society will stage a book signings-readings event April 22 at Brew Street Bakery, 4610 N. Garfield St.
Signings will begin at 3 p.m. and readings at 4:30 p.m., said PBPS Treasurer Kat Copeland, who will sign her collections of poetry and stories.
“It seems that writers are always brought in from other states instead of recognizing our local authors and other artists,” Copeland said. “I feel like it’s time for our local and area people to be recognized.”
She said Brew Street Bakery will have an additional open mic starting at 8 p.m. April 22, Earth Day, and that the restaurant has readings at 8 p.m. each Thursday.
Other participating writers will be Gardendale adult and children’s novelist Sara Barnard and her fourth grade son Logan, who writes stories, Odessa poet Loretta Walker, former Texas Poet Laureate Larry D. Thomas of Alpine, Midland children’s novelist Mark S. Parker, Midland historical romance novelist Joyce Shaughnessy and Midland Christian novelist Tim Speer.
Also, Odessa suspense and horror novelist Ann Swann, Midland children’s and young adult novelist Teffanie Thompson, Austin poet Claire Vogel Camargo, Midland short story writer and poet James R. Campbell, Midland novelist Laura Drake, Midland non-fiction writer Ellen Goldberg, Midland poet and non-fiction writer Luke-Dakota Massey and Odessa memoirist Veletta Butcher.
