OPD: Man hits paramedic, arrested

Odessa police reported arresting a 32-year-old Edinburg man on accusations that he hit a paramedic with the back of his hand while the emergency responder was asking him where he was injured after a wreck.

Police reported Paul Perez Jr. was driving a Dodge Dakota truck that struck the back of a semi-trailer early Friday morning near Eastridge Road and East Loop 338. Police spokesman Cpl. Steve LeSueur said Perez was in the back of an ambulance when he hit the EMT.

Next, police reported Perez resisted an officer trying to detain him. Officers arrested Perez on charges of felony assault of a public servant and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Police reported the paramedic, Steven Leftwich, suffered minor injury but was not taken to the hospital.

Perez, 1113 Torry Lane, Edinburg, was listed Monday as being held at the Ector County Detention Center on a total $16,500 bond.
