The Wolfforth Frenship volleyball team has yet to lose in District 2-6A play.

Odessa High has yet to win.

The Lady Tigers remained perfect in 2-6A as Frenship defeated Odessa High in straight sets, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-18 Friday at OHS Fieldhouse.

With the victory, the Lady Tigers moved to 27-8, 3-0 while the Lady Bronchos fell to 13-9, 0-3.

“I think we’ve done pretty well,” Frenship head coach Amy Mangum said. “I think we were a little slow getting off the bus today and we were dragging a little bit but we ended up playing hard and Odessa High gave us a good fight.”

Odessa High has also yet to win a set since the start of district play as the Lady Bronchos have lost all three games in sweeps.

“I feel like what it’s going to take for us (to end the losing streak) believing that we can compete,” Odessa High head coach Cody Dominguez said. “We feel like we’re still dwelling and getting mad at what’s happening in the past. We just need to compete and let it go. Everyone has a good and bad days and we just need to respond.”

Frenship entered Friday’s game as one of only two teams in District 2-6A that has yet to lose. Midland Legacy was the other team undefeated at the top of the standings with Frenship.

As Frenship keeps its eyes set on a district title, Mangum said the undefeated start has been important.

“I think it’s been a very crucial start to district play,” Mangum said. “Every night is a battle. The girls have prepared well for it. They’ve done a great job of finishing games.”

After a close start to the game, Wolfforth Frenship pulled away and took a 19-13 lead in the first set.

A kill by Frenship’s Kathryn Hiner made it 21-14 shortly after both teams came out of a timeout.

An error by the Lady Tigers helped keep the Lady Bronchos alive at 23-18.

However, not by much as Frenship scored the next two points to take the set, 25-18.

The Lady Tigers began the second set on a 4-3 run.

A kill by Odessa High’s Aubrey Villa brought the hosts to a 7-6 deficit.

Frenship responded with a 2-0 run.

It was 14-9, Frenship, when the Lady Bronchos called a timeout.

Odessa High came out of the timeout, going on a 3-0 run.

Frenship would respond and take a 21-16 lead.

Frenship began the third set on an 8-7 run.

An error by the visitors tied the set up at 8 and OHS took the lead on the following play.

A block by Hadlee Welch gave the visitors a 14-12 advantage.

The visitors then went on a 6-0 run to remain firmly in control of the set and the match.

“Again, I think we finished well,” Mangum said. “I think we’ve been up and down on our intensity but we’ve been finishing the games well.”

Frenship will next be at home against Permian at 5 p.m. Oct. 3.

“I know Permian beat Midland High the other night,” Mangum said. “Every night you have to be ready and I want to take it one game at a time. I know they’re a strong team and we’ll have to show up, ready to play.”
