1. A man who had been newly released from the county jail on a misdemeanor offense was arrested Wednesday in Desoto on  accusations that he fatally stabbed and beat a popular Odessa T-shirt shop owner after the businessman had given him a lift from a truck stop over the weekend.


2. Odessa Police Chief Tim Burton found officers were justified in pulling over District 1 Councilman Malcolm Hamilton on Feb. 1, a traffic stop that led to an explosive reaction by the elected official.


3. Professional bull rider Bonner Bolton, who grew up on a ranch just north of Odessa, was named as a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars series, which kicks off Monday, March 20.


4. The stepfather of a teenage girl was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexually abusing her for the past two years.


5. IN SPORTS: The UTPB men’s basketball team captured a Lone Star Conference championship Saturday, winning the league’s regular-season title and cutting down the nets in the Falcon Dome after completing a record-setting run through their schedule. The team is geared up for the postseason and today’s start of the Lone Star Conference tournament.
