Cause behind fatal house fire remains undetermined

The cause behind a house fire last month that killed a 9-month-old boy and injured his father remains undetermined, an Odessa Fire/Rescue official said Wednesday.
While the case on the fatal blaze at 1408 N. Lauderdale Ave. that killed Sincere Thomas is not closed its cause has been listed for now as undetermined, said Odessa Fire/Rescue Assistant Fire Marshal Yolanda Ricon.
Ricon’s statement follows the fire Jan. 29 that gutted part of the infant’s home and left his father, Thomas, with burn injuries for which he was flown to the University Medical Center Lubbock. Odessa Police Sgt. Jon Foust, who tried saving the infant boy, was sent to Medical Center Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation but released.
Foust rushed inside the burning home to save Sincere Thomas, who was trapped inside, but was forced to turn back because of the dense smoke. Ricon couldn’t say with certitude when a cause behind the fire would come up.
