WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UTPB uses second-half rally to edge Arkansas-Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, ARK. The UTPB women’s baskteball team used another second-half comeback to earn a 61-59 victory against Arkansas-Fort Smith in Lone Star Conference play Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.

The Falcons (8-18 overall, 4-10 in conference) outscored the Lions 42-29 in the second half, just two days after dominating the fourth quarter in a victory at Oklahoma Christian.

Holly Hemmeline led UTPB with 15 points, with Kamari Portalis adding 11 and Alexus Wykoff finishing with 10 in the victory.

Arkansas-Fort Smith led by nine points (49-40) to star the fourth quarter, then watched the Falcons slowly chip away at the lead until at Morgan Helgesen free throw with 3:30 remaining to play tied the game (54-54).

A pair of free throws by Mar’Shalia Lollie put the Lions back in front, but UTPB answered with a 7-o run for a 61-56 lead, with Rory Carter capping the scoring run with a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining.
