WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Falcons, Lady Wranglers with runaway victories

Big win for Falcons 

WICHITA FALLS Avalon Munoz recorded a triple-double to lead the UTPB women’s basketball team to an 80-50 victory against Midwestern State Thursday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Munoz finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Holly Hemmeline added a game-high 21 points as the Falcons improved to 11-13 overall, 8-10 in Lone Star Conference play.

UTPB is tied with Cameron University and St. Edward’s for the seventh spot in the conference’s overall standings.

The top eight teams advance to the postseason tournament.

Dyamon Griggs led the host Mustangs (5-19, 3-15) with 14 points, with Shawnisay Millar adding 11 and Mandy Withey 10 in the loss.

The Falcons continue their road trip against Cameron at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lawton, Okla.

Bounce back

SNYDER Nahawa Diarra Berthe scored a game-high 23 points to lead Odessa College to an 86-56 victory against Western Texas College in women’s basketball action Thursday at the Coliseum.

Ivana Krajina added 15 points and Chelsy Bautista chipped in 12 for the Lady Wranglers.

Odessa College improved to 12-8 overall, 5-4 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference play) and rebounded from a loss Monday at Clarendon College.

Western Texas dropped to 5-17, 0-10.
