TEXAS LEAGUE BASEBALL: Travelers slip past RockHounds in late innings

MIDLAND The Arkansas Travelers did all their scoring in the last three innings Friday to take a 4-1 victory against the Midland RockHounds in Texas League action at Security Bank Ballpark.
The Travelers, who moved into sole possession of the North Division lead, scored two runs in the seventh and two in the ninth to remain unbeaten in the second half.
Midland dropped into a three-way tie for the South Division lead with Corpus Christi and Frisco.
The RockHounds scored in the second when Kevin Merrell tripled with two outs and Collin Theroux followed with a double. Arkansas starter Andrew Moore (2-1) allowed just three baserunners the rest of the way to keep the Travelers close.
Moore went six innings, allowing a run on six hits, five of which came in the first two innings. He walked two and struck out five.
Art Warren pitched the ninth for his seventh save as Arkansas pitchers retired the last 10 Midland batters and 13 of the last 14.
Luis Barrera went 2 for 4 to lead Midland, while Chase Calabuig had a doubl.
The Travelers strung together four consecutive hits in the seventh, taking the lead on RBI singles by Nick Zammarelli and Joseph Odom. Mike Ahmed added a two-run double in the ninth.
Zammarelli went 3 for 3 for Arkansas, while Evan White and Jordan Cowan were both 2 for 4.
Midland starter Brian Howard (5-5) was charged with two runs on six hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out nine and walked none.
