NORTH AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE: Jackalopes let lead slip away against RoadRunners

It was a game of a give-and-take when the Odessa Jackalopes hosted the Topeka Roadrunners in North American Hockey League play Thursday night.

The Jackalopes gave, the Roadrunners were happy to take.

Topeka’s Mason Vukonich scored with 3:13 remaining to play to break a tie and allow the visitors to skate away with a 4-3 victory at the Ector County Coliseum.

Former Jackalope Lucas Herrmann, traded to the RoadRunners in February, scored twice, his second goal coming just 4:14 into the final period to tie the game. Nigel Nelson also tallied for the Roadrunners (17-32-2-2).

Blake Bride found the net twice for Odessa (28-21-3-2), with Peter Miko notching the team’s third goal. The Jackalopes led by one goal on three separate occasions, only to watch the Roadrunners work hard to knot things up each time.

The teams continue their three-game series at 7:11 tonight as the Jackalopes try to snap a three-game losing streak and retain the South Division’s third seed in the upcoming NAHL playoffs.
