MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: RockHounds can’t find rhythm at bat against Drillers

MIDLAND Pitching wasn’t an issue for the Midland RockHounds when they hosted the Tulsa Drillers Thursday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.

Despite seeing four pitchers record 11 strikeouts, the RockHounds couldn’t get their bats going in a 4-1 loss.

The contest got out to a solid defensive start for both teams until the Drillers got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third.

An RBI triple from Ryan Ward drove in Devin Mann, giving Tulsa a 1-0 lead.

Carson Taylor then added to the lead with a one-run single to score Ward.

The 2-0 advantage held up for the visitors until the bottom of the fifth when William Simoneit scored off a ground out from Chase Calabuig.

Hunter Feduccia went on to extend the Drillers advantage with a two-run double in the top of the seventh.

The RockHounds (30-36 overall) couldn’t string together timely hits in the contest, connecting six times at bat while Tulsa (38-26) came away with 11 hits.

The teams will continue their series at 7 p.m. Friday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
