HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Permian holds annual spring game

The Permian Panthers football team held its annual Black-White Game with Team White earning the bragging rights in a 28-3 win Wednesday night at Ratliff Stadium.
Despite the lopsided score, head coach Jeff Ellison, who enters his second year at the helm of the program, liked what he saw on the field as the Panthers wrapped up their spring portion of the offseason schedule.
“I thought it was a great day for us,” Ellison said. “I told the guys afterward that I was extremely proud of them. It was a great end to the spring practice.”
Running back Malachi Medlock found the end zone on two separate occasions for Team White, scoring the first touchdown of the day in the first quarter before scoring his second in the third.
Quarterback Easton Hernandez played a good chunk of the game for Team White while Harper Terry saw some action under center for Team Black.
“I know the score was a little lopsided but I thought some of our young guys stepped up,” Ellison said. “I thought Malachi did a great job in a varsity showing. I thought our quarterbacks did an outstanding job with both throwing and running.”
The Panthers are coming off an 8-4 showing in 2018 which included an area playoff run.
Permian will begin its 2019 campaign at Lubbock-Cooper on Aug. 23.
