HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Permian 7-on-7 falls in semifinals at state qualifying tournament

LUBBOCK Permian’s 7-on-7 team reached the semifinals Friday at the Lubbock State Qualifying Tournament before falling 34-25 to former district rival Abilene High.

Down 21-7 at halftime, the Panthers scored three touchdowns in the second half of a game that was interrupted by a lightning delay.

Permian won Pool C, defeating Amarillo High 39-26, Hereford 53-21 and Lubbock Estacado 26-14.

Odessa High went 2-1 in Pool A, missing out on a spot in the semifinals after a 40-39 loss to Lubbock Coronado. The Bronchos beat Lubbock High 31-6 and Wolfforth Frenship 27-21.

Abilene High and Abilene Cooper, which defeated Coronado 32-27 in the other semifinal, earned the berths to the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament, scheduled for June 29-30 at College Station.
