HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Palmer takes over as Seminole head football coach

SEMINOLE It didn’t take long for Seminole to find the next leaders of its athletic programs.

Offensive line coach Ty Palmer officially takes over as the head coach of the Indians, while boys basketball coach David Williams is the new athletic director in moves confirmed Wednesday by both men.

The duo replaces former head football coach and athletic director Kent Jackson, who announced his retirement last Friday after five seasons at Seminole and the last 33 years in coaching.

“It’s some pretty big shoes to fill,” Palmer said Wednesday in a phone interview. “Replacing him is kind of bittersweet, but I’ve learned from him as an assistant over the last nine years with how he runs his program and there isn’t a lot to change.

“It’s been a whirlwind for me since Monday night at 10:30 and I’m looking forward to making that transition.”
The Indians finished 7-4 last season and advanced to the area round of the Class 4A Division I playoffs.
