GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Chapa tabbed as new head coach at Odessa High

The Odessa High girls basketball team has a new leader.

Pending board approval, Marcus Chapa will be named the next head coach of the Lady Bronchos. The move was confirmed by Odessa High campus athletic coordinator Danny Servance on Wednesday.

Chapa comes over from Iraan, where he was the boy’s basketball coach this past season. He was also on Corby Maurer’s football staff, coaching wide receivers.

He replaces Olivia Pyburn, who left to take the same position at Burleson High School.

The Lady Bronchos finished 19-16 in 2018-19 and reached the playoffs for the first time in 14 seasons. Odessa High defeated El Paso Americas in the Class 6A bi-district round.
