BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Panthers repeat as district champs

AMARILLO It took to the very last night of the regular season, but the Permian Panthers successfully defended their District 2-6A boys basketball title Tuesday with a 65-39 victory at Amarillo Tascosa.

Nakaveion White scored a game-high 26 points, Shy Stephens-Deary scored 17 and Keyonta Johnson added 10 as the Panthers (24-7 overall, 8-2 district) avenged a 56-52 loss to Tascosa at home on Jan. 25.

The Rebels (20-9, 7-3) were led by Isaiah Johnson with 12 points.

Tascosa led 13-9 after the first quarter, bur Permian took control of the game with a 29-8 advantage in the second quarter and continued to pull away in the second half.

The Panthers will face the fourth-place team from District 1-6A next week in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
