HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Workman leads Permian in sweep of Midland High

The Permian volleyball team started the second half of District 2-6A competition on a strong note.

Jade Workman had a match-high 18 kills to lead the Lady Panthers to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of Midland High Tuesday at the Permian Fieldhouse.

Cianna Harris added seven kills and Layny Brown finished with 23 assists as Permian improved to 22-8 overall, 5-1 in district.

Workman also finished with 16 assists, with Iliana Garcia and Sarahi Orona each adding 14 digs to the victory.

“Everything that I do always comes from practice and always comes from the passes that we did in the warm-ups,” Workman said.

The Lady Panthers swept the season series and improved to 8-1 at home.

Permian, forced to go four sets in the first meetings between the teams this season, set the tone early in that match.

Jumping out of a 7-0 lead in the first set, the Lady Panthers would never trail.

“My players came out focused and ready to play,” Permian head coach Gillian Herrera said. “They were aggressive and I think everybody on the court did their job and I am so really proud of the way they stepped up and played today.

“Defensively, we’re picking up balls and the hitters are putting them down. It was a team effort and I’m proud of them.”
