HIGH SCHOOL TRACK: Cougars’ Ramirez earns silver, bronze

AUSTIN Donovan Ramirez of Odessa Compass Academy won a pair of medals during the first day of competition at the UIL State Track and Field Championships Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Ramirez finished second in the Class 3A long jump and then added a bronze in the Class 3A triple jump in his final competition for the Cougars.

Andrews’ Sebastian Rodriguez finished fifth in Class 4A discus, with Greenwood’s Kyen Purser sixth in the event.

Jarod Cargill of Andrews was fifth in the Class 4A high jump, while Seminole’s Rikter Connally finished fifth in the Class 4A shot put.

Valerie Hunt of Monahans finished fourth in the Girls Class 4A discus and added a seventh-place finish in the Class 4A shot put.
