HIGH SCHOOL TRACK: Bronchos, Panthers set to start Region I-6A Championships

Members of the Odessa High and Permian track and field teams will compete at the Region I-6A Championships starting Friday at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.

Paige Byford and Kylee Bartlett will represent the Odessa High girls after qualifying in various events at the 1-6A/2-6A Area Meet April 22 in El Paso.

Byford is set to compete in the triple jump and 400-meter dash, while Bartlett will compete in the shot put.

Mathew Ortiz and Ivan Carreon also qualified for Odessa High, with Ortiz competing in the 800-meter run and Carreon taking part in the 110-meter hurdles.

Permian will be represented at the meet by its girls relay team, which will compete in the 800-meter relay.

The top two finishers in each event will move on to the 2022 UIL Track and Field State Championships, which take place May 14 in Austin.
