HIGH SCHOOL TRACK: Bronchos, Panthers have athletes move on to Region I-6A Meet

EL PASO Athletes from Odessa High and Permian competed at the 1-6A/2-6A Area meet at Cougar Stadium.

The top four finishers in each event qualified to compete in the Region I-6A Meet April 29-30 at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.

Odessa High’s Paige Byford qualified in the triple jump after jumping 36 feet to take third place in the event, while teammate Kylee Bartlett finished fourth in the shot put to advance.

Byford also qualified in the girls 400-meter dash, clocking in at 1:00.89.

Mathew Ortiz and Ivan Carreon represented the Odessa High boys and are moving on after strong showings in the 800-meter run and 110-meter hurdles.

Ortiz finished the 800-meter run in 1:56.91 to place third, while Carreon took first in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14.82 time.

The Permian girls relay team will also see its season continue after it placed third in the 800-meter relay with a 1:47.23 time.
