HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Bronchos, Panthers see athletes advance to Region I-6A Tournament

SAN ANGELO Members of the Odessa High and Permian tennis teams were able to keep their seasons alive with strong showings at the District 2-6A tournament Wednesday and Thursday at the Tut Bartzen Tennis Center.

Odessa High’s Nithin Reddy closed out the competition on a strong note, defeating Abilene High’s Griffin Sullivan 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 for first place in boys singles Thursday.

Reddy had a first round bye and advanced after defeating Midland High’s Collin Graham in the quarterfinals, and Abilene High’s Rolando Rivera in the semifinals.

Permian’s Paula Garcia and Patricio Rios placed second in mixed doubles after falling 6-1, 7-5 against Abilene High’s Kaitlyn Strain and Jayton Ashton in the final.

Garcia and Rios set up the final match after cruising through their quarterfinal and semifinal matchups.

Reddy, Garcia and Rios placed in the top two of their respective draw to advance to the Region I-6A Tournament, which will take place April 12-13 in Arlington.
