Baseball teams back at it

The Permian and Odessa High baseball teams return to the diamond for key District 2-6A matchups Thursday through Saturday.

Permian (10-9-2, 2-1 in District) will host Midland Legacy at 4:30 p.m. at McCanlies Field.

The Panthers and Rebels play at Ernie Johnson Field in Midland on Friday before returning for a noon game on Saturday at McCanlies Field.

The Bronchos (12-6-2, 1-2) open their series against San Angelo Central at 4:30 p.m. at Donsky Field in San Angelo.

Friday’s game will be a 4:30 p.m. at Pressly Field, with the final game back in San Angelo on Saturday.

Playoff set

The Permian girls soccer team will face Southlake Carroll in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal matchup on at 5 p.m. Friday at McMurry University in Abilene.

The Lady Panthers (11-9-3) defeated Keller Central, 3-2, in overtime Tuesday, with Alyssa Valdez scoring twice and Anai Lopez once in the victory.

The Lady Dragons are undefeated (27-0) and have outscored their opponents 185-8 this season.

They defeated San Angelo Central, 4-0, in their area round contest.

In a rout

Permian’s Makayla Sanchez hit a grand slam, with teammates Makenzie Bernal and Taylor Ramirez also hitting home runs in an 18-5 victory against San Angelo Central on Tuesday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.

The game was originally scheduled for San Angelo, but was moved because of unplayable field conditions.

Sanchez finished 3 for 3 with one run scored and six RBIs, with Bernal going 3 for 3 with four runs scored and three RBIs.

Ramirez was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, with Nyssa Dunn adding a 2-for-3 performance with one run scored and three RBIs.
