HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASTICS: Permian boys finish second at regional meet

LUBBOCK The San Angelo Central boys and girls gymnastics teams swept the team titles at the Region III Championships Thursday at Rock Solid Athletics.

The Bobcats scored 313.60 points over two days to take crown, with Permian second at 308.00.

Both teams surpassed the threshold (295.00 points) to qualify for the state championship meet on April 27-29 at A&M Consolidated High School.

Abilene Cooper was third with 287.40 points and will have to wait to see if its score is high enough to advance after all the regional meets are finished.

Odessa High finished sixth with 265.10 points.

In the boys all-around race, Tristan Reyna of Abilene Cooper earned the crown by one-tenth of a point (110.00-109.90) over Lubbock High’s Will Brackeen.

Joel Dantzler of Abilene High was third with 108.80 points.

Permian’s Sincere Galindo (106.60) and Talan Ramirez (101.3) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the girls competition, the Lady Cats scored 231.15 points to pull away from runner-up El Paso Eastwood (227.75), with El Paso Bel Air finishing third with 225.30.

All three programs advanced to the state meet after surpassing the 215.00-point qualifying mark.

Odessa High (187.20) was seventh, with Permian (176.80) finishing eighth.
