HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Marfa’s Ontiveros finishes second, Andrews boys take fourth at state

Marfa’s Cristian Ontiveros finished second in the individual standings at the Class 1A Boys State Golf Tournament, carding rounds of 78-77—155 Monday and Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle.

He finished two shots behind the first place finisher in Jonesboro’s Jeffrey Morse (76-77—153) and one shot ahead of Miami’s Ben Thrasher (75-81—156) and Utopia’s Nolan Steelman (74-82—156).

Thrasher and Steelman tied for third place.

The Andrews boys placed fourth at the Class 4A Boys State Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland, recording rounds of 320-324—644 to finish four shots behind Bridgeport (319-321—640).

Jorge Molinar III (75-79—154) paced the Mustangs with a tie for ninth place in the individual standings, while Slayter Colbath (79-79—158) tied for 13th.

Jack Burgen (79-84—163), Zane Dulin (87-82—169) and Joey Jeppesen (92-86—178) rounded out the team score for Andrews.
