HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Compass Academy teams advance to Region I-3A Tournament

BIG SPRING The Odessa Compass girls and boys golf teams both earned the right to keep playing at the recent District 5-3A Championships on Monday through Wednesday at Comanche Trail Golf Course.

The Lady Cougars won the district crown with a two-day total of 349-347—696, which was 150 shots better than runner-up Sonora (434-412—846), which also qualified.

Compass Academy’s Allie Scott (83-82—165) earned a one-shot victory over teammate Jordyn Cruz (84-82—166), with Crane’s Karen Santos (93-84—177) finishing third.

Santos and teammate Karla Montes (103-94—197) earned the two individual qualifying spots for the Region I-3A Championships on Apirl 22-23 at Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird.

In the boys tournament, Sonora earned the team title with a 348-318—666 finish, with Compass Academy (366-360—726) finishing second after winning a playoff with Coahoma (360-366—726).

Both Sonora and Compass Academy advance to the regional tournament, along with Coahoma’s Ryan Shifflett (80-88-168) and Crane’s J.J. Dominguez (83-88-171).
