HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Panthers get crucial district win over San Angelo Central

The Permian football team secured a crucial District 2-6A victory over San Angelo Central, 42-14, Friday at Ratliff Stadium.

The Panthers improved to 5-4 overall, 2-2 in district play while the Bobcats fell to 1-8, 0-4.

Permian didn’t take long to get started, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and then making it 28-0 early in the second quarter when quarterback Jakob Garcia hooked up with wide receiver Ben Saldivar for a 59-yard touchdown.

San Angelo Central scored soon after on a Christian English pass to Clotno Hill to put the Bobcats on the board and make it a 28-7 contest.

Permian remained fully in control and got a victory that keeps the Panthers alive in the state playoff hunt.

Permian will face Midland High at 7 p.m. next week at Astound Broadband Stadium.
