ALPINE, 6-3, 180, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 90 tackles, seven sacks, 10 quarterback hurries and five tackles for loss.

>> Notes: Paced the Fightin’ Bucks defense the entire season; his effort helped Alpine create 17 turnovers (13 interceptions, four fumble recoveries) and finish with 702 tackles, including 56 tackles for loss.

DAVEO WALUCHO, DL

PERMIAN, 6-2, 285, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 42 tackles, two sacks, one quarterback hurry and four tackles for loss.

>> Notes: Helped the Panthers control the line of scrimmage by clogging the middle. Finished with a season-high seven tackles against Abilene High on Sept. 24 and recorded six tackles in two other games.

DAVID ZAMORA, DL

ANDREWS, 6-1, 203, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 40 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks and six quarterback hurries during the regular season..

>> Notes: Zamora is part of a line that gets overshadowed by the play of the Mustangs’ linebackers, but his presence helped Andrews regain the District 2-4A Division I crown.

WESLEY SMITH, LB

MIDLAND LEGACY, 6-0, 210, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 111 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, nine quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

>> Notes: Defensive heartbeat for the Rebels always around the football while helping them to an undefeated run through their District 2-6A schedule for the outright championship.

JAXON DORETHY, LB

PERMIAN, 6-1, 190, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 120 tackles and five sacks during the regular season.

>> Notes: Dorethy was everywhere for the Panthers this season, using his experience, instincts and speed to move from sideline to sideline to make plays.

LUIS CERVANTES, LB

ANDREWS, 5-11, 190, JR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 81 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery during the regular season.

>> Notes: A defensive standout a season ago, Cervantes elevated his game for the Mustangs this season to earn District 2-4A Division I MVP honors, helping Andrews win the district crown after a bumpy nondistrict ride.

ELIAS MINJAREZ

ODESSA HIGH, 6-0, 200, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 109 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

>> Notes: Minjarez was the unquestioned leader of a defense that was trying to create extra possessions for the Bronchos’ new wide open offense. Had seven games with double-digit tackles, including a season-high 16 twice (against Midland High on Sept. 24 and Abilene High on Oct. 22).

KAYDEN BAZE, DB

PERMIAN, 6-1, 190, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 111 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, six passes defended and two interceptions.

>> Notes: Baze is the quarterback for the Panthers’ defense, getting his teammates in the right spots to make plays. He has made plenty of plays for Permian with 257 tackles over his career.

LEONARD DAVIS, DB

MONAHANS, 6-3, 195, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 44 tackles, 11 pass breakups, seven interceptions and one fumble recovery.

>> Notes: Davis made some noise on offense with 722 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, but his work on defense kept the Loboes in the playoff chase. His seven interceptions was fourth in the state in Class 4A.

ISAIAH GARCIA, DB

FORT STOCKTON, 6-2, 185, JR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 84 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and six pass breakups.

>> Notes: Garcia has the length to go up and get the football and the quickness to play with most wide receivers. He was a District 4-2A Division I first-team selection on offense and defense.

BRAYDEN FUENTES, DB

MCCAMEY, 6-1, 175, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with 85 tackles, three tackles for loss, one quarterback pressure, one interception, three pass breakups, two force fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two blocked punts and two blocked extra points..

>> Notes: Fuentes was all over the field for the Badgers on defense … and offense, as he caught 19 passes for 421 yards and nine touchdowns, rushed 18 times for 260 yards and five scores and was 7-of-11 passing for 104 yards and one score.

JAYDEN CANABA, P

ALPINE, 6-0, 180, SR.

>> Key Stats: Finished with a 39-yard average kicking the football, with a long of 82 yards.

>> Notes: Canaba’s field-flipping effort came against Fort Stockton in Week 2 but that wasn’t the only rocket as he had a 70-yard effort against El Paso Jefferson on opening night and then connected for 57 yards against Lubbock Roosevelt on Nov. 19 in the postseason.
