HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Permian, Odessa High shine in Abilene

ABILENE The Permian and Odessa High cross country teams put in some strong performances Saturday at the Abilene Cross Country Invitational.

On the boys side, Abilene High won the team title with 45 points, followed by Permian (71) and Odessa High (80) in second and third, respectively.

Odessa High’s Joseph Flotte was the highest individual finisher, stopping the clock in 17 minutes, 20.59 seconds after 5,000 meters.

Permian’s Julian Cruz was fourth (17:28.75) and teammate Davin Merrill (17:29.03) was fifth.

Odessa High’s Alex Camacho crossed in 17:34.88 to finish eighth.

In the girl’s race, Abilene High won the team title with 23 points. San Angelo Central (44), Lubbock Coronado (88) and Odessa High (91) rounded out the top four.

Permian’s Briannah Garcia finished fifth in 21:13.75, with Odessa High’s Alyana Gonzales crossing in 22:03.09 for 13th.
