HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY: Buena Vista captures title as area teams compete at UIL championships

ROUND ROCK Area athletes competed at the UIL state cross country championships over the weekend at Old Settler’s Park.

The Buena Vista girls won the Class 1A state title, putting up a 105 team score and being paced by Gabriela Sanchez who finished 20th with a time of 13 minutes, 12 seconds.

Marfa’s Ummi Chavez and Aundrea Garcia also competed in the Class 1A competition, with Chavez placing fifth and Garcia finishing in 33rd.

Wink’s Autumn Smith was the lone area competitor in Class 2A, placing 15th in the girls race at 12 minutes, 39 seconds.

Crane had its boys and girls teams competing in the Class 3A competition, with the girls finishing seventh and the boys placing 13th.

William Hall paced the Crane boys with a 28th place finish and Raeley Howard led the girls, placing 22nd.

Mandy Dobbs represented Compass Academy in the Class 3A girls race, placing 79th in the competition.

Fort Stockton and Pecos had a runner competing in both the Class 4A boys and girls races.

Fabian Perez placed 21st and Ali Jackson came in 52nd to represent Fort Stockton, while Ethan Chavez placed 25th and Kallie Bullard finished in 24th for Pecos.
