GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Lady Tigers too much for Lady Bronchos

Visiting Wolfforth Frenship was too much for Odessa High, running away to a 25-22, 25-15, 25-15 victory in District 2-6A girls volleyball action Tuesday at the OHS Fieldhouse.

The victory improved the Lady Tigers to 15-20 overall, 5-2 in district.

The Lady Bronchos dropped to 13-16, 0-8.

Clarissa Deleon lead Odessa high with nine kills, adding seven assists and 11 digs.

“We battled, but we just came up a little short,” Lady Bronchos coach Cody Dominguez said.

Odessa High battled in the first set, forcing six ties, including a 22-22 score late in the set.

For every tie, however, the Lady Tigers always had an answer the road team responded by taking back the lead for good each time.

“That was a very solid Frenship team,” Dominguez said. “They started swinging like how we were doing, so it was just a battle of who could make less mistakes.”

The second and third sets were less forgiving for the Lady Bronchos.

The Lady Tigers roared to a 15-3 lead in the second set, following several successive kills, with a couple aces sprinkled in the mix.

The third set was more of the same, as Frenship showed why it has won five of its past six matches.

The Lady Tigers (15-20, 6-2) only trailed once between the second and third sets (down 1-0 to open the third set), as they pulled away after a 12-12 tie to a commanding 25-15 third set win.

The Lady Bronchos host Midland High (14-20, 3-4) at 6 p.m. Friday.
