GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Permian Basin teams close out first round of state tournaments

The Compass Academy girls golf team got out to a strong start in the Class 3A State Golf Tournament, finishing out the first round with a 359 at Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin.

The Lady Cougars sat 47 shots behind leader Wall (312) and tied for second with Gunter (359).

Allie Scott (83) is pacing Compass Academy with Jordyn Cruz (84) following closely behind, while Aubrey Stone (95), Sierra Dobbs (97) and Olivia Lopez (98) rounded out the team score.

In Class 2A, Wink is currently in sixth after posting an opening round 404 at Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

Analia Hernandez leads the Wildcats after shooting a 91 followed by Taylyn Garduno (99), Emily Valenzuela (101), Kyndall Garduno (113) and Brittany Haley (119).

Andrews recorded a 324 to tie Argyle for second, while Seminole put up a 352 to end the first round of the Class 4A Tournament in fifth at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

Bailey Ballou led Andrews with a 77 and Kasey Hogue led Seminole with an 82.

Madisyn Yanez of Monahans was also competing at the 4A tournament as an individual, posting an 86 in the first round.

Marfa’s Alexis Gonzales competed as an individual at the Class 1A tournament, posting a 119 in the opening round at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle.

All tournaments will finish Tuesday.
