COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: UTPB picked 13th in preseason poll

The UTPB volleyball team was picked to finish 13th out of the 17 total teams in the Lone Star Conference standings as the preseason poll was released Wednesday.

The Falcons, coached by Tim Loesch, are coming off an 11-16 overall, 6-10 in conference, record from 2022.

Last year’s Lone Star Conference and national champion West Texas A&M was favored to repeat, finishing with 42 first place votes while UT-Tyler was picked second and Texas A&M-Kingsville was third.

The Lady Buffs finished 33-4, 16-0, last year and took the national title in a four-set win over Concordia-St. Paul.

Dallas Baptist was picked to finish fourth and Angelo State came in fifth.

Cameron was  picked to finish last while Eastern New Mexico, Midwestern State and Western New Mexico were also picked to finish behind UTPB.

UTPB will begin its season against Huston Tillotston Sept. 1 in San Angelo.
