COLLEGE SOFTBALL: UTPB falls in doubleheader against Angelo State

SAN ANGELO The UTPB softball team was swept in a doubleheader against Angelo State Wednesday in Lone Star Conference action on the road.

The Falcons (3-9 overall, 0-3 in conference) lost by scores of 12-1 and 7-0.

UTPB managed to get on the scoreboard first in Game 1, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

However, the Rambelles (15-1, 6-0) scored three runs in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth before the game ended early on run rules.

Angelo State had 10 hits and no errors while UTPB had four hits and one error.

In Game 2, the Rambelles took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added four in the third, holding on for the shutout.

UTPB had one hit and three errors while Angelo State had nine hits and one error.

UTPB will be back at home this weekend with a three-game series against West Texas A&M, starting with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the UTPB Softball Complex.

Game 3 of the series will be played at noon Sunday.
